چکیده

Abiotic stresses are the major cause that limits productivity of crop plants worldwide. Plants respond to these stress conditions at physiological and molecular levels. At the molecular level, the expression of thousands of genes is altered in response to various abiotic stress conditions. Several studies have been performed to find out the role of these genes in abiotic stress signaling. However, among these, transcription factor encoding genes are most important because many of them act as ‘key or master regulators’ of gene expression. Transcription factors appear to be attractive targets to unravel the molecular mechanisms of abiotic stress responses and engineering abiotic stress tolerance in plants. However, the role of only a few transcription factors in abiotic stress responses have been elucidated in rice until now and require a detailed investigation for several such candidate genes. In this review, our endeavour is to develop a comprehensive understanding of the intricate regulatory network of transcription factors operative during abiotic stress responses with greater emphasis on rice. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Improving Rice (Oryza sativa L.) Drought Tolerance by Suppressing a NF-YA Transcription Factor

The response to drought stress is a complicated process involving stress sensing, intracellular signaltransduction, and the execution of a cellular response. Transcription factors play important roles in the signaling pathways including abiotic stress. In the present study a rice NF-YA transcription factor gene was partially characterized following dehydration. Disrupting the gene via a T...

A novel MYBS3-dependent pathway confers cold tolerance in rice.

Rice (Oryza sativa) seedlings are particularly sensitive to chilling in early spring in temperate and subtropical zones and in high-elevation areas. Improvement of chilling tolerance in rice may significantly increase rice production. MYBS3 is a single DNA-binding repeat MYB transcription factor previously shown to mediate sugar signaling in rice. In this study, we observed that MYBS3 also play...

Corrigendum: The NAC-type transcription factor OsNAC2 regulates ABA-dependent genes and abiotic stress tolerance in rice

Plants can perceive environmental changes and respond to external stressors. Here, we show that OsNAC2, a member of the NAC transcription factor family, was strongly induced by ABA and osmotic stressors such as drought and high salt. With reduced yields under drought conditions at the flowering stage, OsNAC2 overexpression lines had lower resistance to high salt and drought conditions. RNAi pla...

Transcription regulation of abiotic stress responses in rice: a combined action of transcription factors and epigenetic mechanisms.

Plant growth and crop production are highly reduced by adverse environmental conditions and rice is particularly sensitive to abiotic stresses. Plants have developed a number of different mechanisms to respond and try to adapt to abiotic stress. Plant response to stress such as drought, cold, and high salinity, implies rapid and coordinated changes at transcriptional level of entire gene networ...

OsTCP19 influences developmental and abiotic stress signaling by modulating ABI4-mediated pathways

Class-I TCP transcription factors are plant-specific developmental regulators. In this study, the role of one such rice gene, OsTCP19, in water-deficit and salt stress response was explored. Besides a general upregulation by abiotic stresses, this transcript was more abundant in tolerant than sensitive rice genotypes during early hours of stress. Stress, tissue and genotype-dependent retention ...
